  • HMM! Engine talk!

with my suspension worries over and my saving head on now in order to buy and fit, I have decided to look at the engine a bit. does anyone know what are the best mods to do to the 2l-te engine, and is it worth actually tuning up.

I have been looking at other engines from the chevvy 5.7l v8, and the GMC 6.2 - 6.5 v8 diesels. However the one that has caught my eye the most is the toyota supra 3.0 twin turbo. 300hp with all the torque and power high in the rev range. so bits tend not to break. does anyone know about these conversions?

it will be a while before any conversion as i am concentrating on the suspension.
Your help as usuall will be much apprreciated.
Completely bitten by the off road bug, and what better vehicle to do it in!

        Yep, thats what I fitting, Lexus LS400 engine. (1UZ-FE) 4.0 litre 32valve 4 cam V8. 260bhp, 260ftlbs of torque @ 4400rpm!

The LS400 engine is the most suitable as it has the better shaped sump (clears the front diff) and the exhaust manifolds are tucked in better than the Lexus Soarer. (Same engine, slightly more bhp)
I'm doing a 2" bodylift and dropping the front diff down an inch and a half so the engine should plop straight in with only the engine mounts to worry about.
Then, as I'll be using the transmission from the Lexus, the output shaft needs a slight modification to mate with the Surf's transfer case so that I'll still have 4WD.
Then sort out the exhaust and radiator/cooling fan.

Go with the GM V8 Diesel, I hear that it will bolt up to the Chevy V8 (petrol) adapters, engine Mounts, etc.

You will get a little better economy than the 2.4td and twice the power! No Turbo to worry about either (altough you could stick one on later).
