  • head gone?

Ive owned my 2.4 surf for just over a year, no problems at all in that time, Last wednesday it suddenly starting blowing water out of the expansion tank. It overheated big time. Call the AA (thank god for them) and it looks like the headgasket or the head itself. Ive seen on some sites that the antifreeze levels could have something to do with it??? I had the cooling system drained 3 weeks ago. Can anybody explain why the surf went from running fine to a major over heat in about 20 seconds and what causes it. What can be done to stop this in future and does anybody know someone in the worthing area that can do the job?????????
    Thanks for any help
    Phil

    Hi Phil and welcome.
On the earlier 2.4's there was a design fault on the heads which is the main reason for them going but the late 92 and 93 3.4's had the modified heads which are the 2.8 3l head.Once you get one of these heads fitted then you should go on for a long time.Get the head from Tonyn or Stevo from here.Once fitted just make sure the surf is serviced regular and new rad cap and thermostat is also fitted.
TonyN is in Basingstoke if thats any help to you

give Tonyn a shout or go to www.4x4toys.co.uk and get his tel.no. from there and have a word with him.
You will probably find that it was due to the lack of maintenance by the previous owner and it was just a matter of time before it went.

Long reply deleted as just spoken on the phone!!

Just on point on the years of 2.4 thing, I've just looked through the book and I probably done more heads on 91-on EFI trucks than the earlier trucks, so I not a fan of that above statment.
