  • Killed my Surf 2.4....head etc.

    Open to all comments ;-)

Had my Surf 2 months, off roaded it twice, good clean Surf everything good aprt from.... the engine of course. Heater was poor when i bought it (bought it cheap as aware of engine troubles), flushed it no better, slow to warm up, found thermostate to of been cut out (we all know why) so put a new on in and bled system, still got no heat, but warms up quicker and better fuel economy, AND THEN as expected alot of froth(air in the water) in the exspansion bottle........heater valve in pipe all ok and flowing but pipes not very hot to be honest. Then recently the electric cooling fan has been coming on and off, and then a couple of days ago it came and stayed on chucking out water...not good suspect head trouble as top be expected, had to tow a car with a mate and the temp guage started to shoot into the red, couldn't stop as not safe too, so carried on (bad idea but had too), then in the red for 30 seconds then the white and black smoke out the back, lost abit power, then the bottom hose exploded with a bang, carriedon, lost power/compression very quickly (or was that just the head dying/gasket blowwing through/braking up?) little rattle (from a once slient engine) now engine has clearly no compression and haven't removed the head yet so what ya guys reckon the damage is???????????????

Met some nice fella called Rob with a big 3.0 Surf the other day so popped on here.

Hi Oily, from one resident of Haywards Heath to another welcome to the forum.

I hate to say it but it sounds like the head has indeed popped it's clogs

You should consider a pressure test on it as soon as possible.

If the head has gone contact Tonyn at 4x4toys to get the BEST job done on it

Got a new Toyota head and she's all back together and running fine, but i'm convinced someones adjusted something cos there is no black smoke out the back, feels like it could do with a touch more fuel to get a bit more power.

Some of them don't except for minor puffs occasionally. Someone may have been arsing about with the fuel mix on the pump, but unless you now she's running lean, I wouldn't worry about it.
