  • Temperature drops low.

OK. I tried the search but no joy.

Just in the last week or so I've noticed the temperature very low, but not all the time.

On the motorway the temperature is always bang in the middle of the gauge but on round town, sometimes it is fine, and then I'll look down and it is nearly on cold. the heaters go cold to. as soon as I get on a fiast bit of road it's fine agian.

    Coolant levels all fine etc.

Try burping the cooling system, there is a thread on that somewhere, or it may be your thermostat sticking open.

Thats a cheap fix, get a toyota OEM one, about £15.00 and ten mins to fit.

    Still working for the man!

      Well, it's stoped doing it.

Ruddy thing. now I cannot decide whether to leave well enough alone or flush it and change the stat and cap.

As the stat and cap change are cheap, quick and easy - you may as well do it anyway, even as a preventative measure.

Thats what I thought. I had already ordered the stat from Roughtrax, so might as well fit it.

and here's the wierd thing. when I hadn't had the thing long I had it in for a cambelt change. I'd noticed that it seemed to take a long time to get warm so I asked them to change the stat whilst they were at it, in case it was stuck. Anyway, when I came back I noticed that there was nothing for the new stat on the bill. so I asked. the bloke went back into the workshop to check and came back out and told me they hadn't changed it because they had tested it and it was fine.

When I changed the stat I found it was drilled out, a circle of 4mm holes right round the plate, which I guess some brainiac thought would improve cooling. I've driven round freezing my bum off waiting for the heater to get going for three winters because I trusted that garage.
