what voltage would you expect to see at the fuel pump?

  • what voltage would you expect to see at the fuel pump?

    I have a 2,4TD EFI 2L-TE and seem to be lacking power...ive pretty much eliminated most things...but started thinking about a poss suspect ECU...

    on my fuel pump on idol I'm getting 2.9V however with throttle fully open im only reading 2.1V

    my assumption was it was something like a 0-5V coil therefore i was expecting the voltage to increase rather than decrease?


    does anyone know the stats on this?

    Hmm....no success so far on finding the answer to this one...spoke to a few people and they would assume the voltage would increase not decrease...and if the engine is being starved of fuel it would explain the lack of torque....

    just need to find someone with a multimeter and a surf to measure the voltage for me to confirm...anyone??

    in the mean time..

    im on the look out for an ECU now...ive found one from a Auto but mines a manual....im guessing there would be various extra signals going to the auto box..but is it inteligent in the sence if an Auto ECU was used on a manual would it function?...or fault out?....


    has anyone done a manual conversion on an auto truck before and not changed the ECU?....its a 2.4TD EFI btw :-)

      With a name like Sparkz, you should be able to sort this out yourself

      Is it the solenoid voltage you are measuring? Without reference to manuals, I would imagine that will be pulsed so depending on the frequency response of the meter you're using it could appear to be reducing as you open the throttle.

      Even the pump *could* be a brushless one, so would be driven by synthetic variable frequency AC - also difficult to measure without access to specialised test equipment.

        Ahhhhhhh.....interesting...did nt think about the posibility of it being pulsed...

        do you know the ranges of the solinoid?...

        my day job is completely unrelated to cars...but does give me access to lots test equipment...if i know the ranges of the soliniod i can scope the voltage feed to it to ensure everything is how it should be...if it turns out this is ok..its back to the drawing board!....bugger!

            i just checked the pump again, this time with an RMS meter..same readings..there or there abouts...

            on the down (which i guess if more positive side!) on AC im getting 5v at tickover..and up to 11.5 full chat....so im guessing this is right?

            Bugger!...its gotta be something!

            replaced the fuel pump and the turbo..ive elimitated the mechanical side...just rebuilt the top half...loads of compression now...ive metered the Throttle Position Sensor, and its as per nev's quoted figures and it sounds like the pump is giving out the right sorta voltage...the inlet manifold is opening..(cause its mechanical!) to elimiate the fuel lines pickups i rigged a temp tank in the engine bay.....hilgly technical coke bottle with both pipes stuffed in!...so i have fuel complression and air......but performace is still rubish...GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!




            any ideas people?
