  • Top Mechanic on the Wirral - with a rant too!!!!

I have been walking past this garage on the way from my girlfriends to the train station most mornings and on Monday walking home decided to pop in to see if they could sort out my fuel pump issue.

The top guy in there had experience of Surfs and hated dealing with them coz they "are a nightmare sometimes". He told me that if it was leaking from the central aisle of the pump around the cables then it would be around £450 as they need to recalibrate the pump etc etc etc so nervously I went to get my car for him to have a look at. When I got there he had a feel about the pump and stuff and confirmed that it was just the starter / stop switch which needed resealing. It is the smallest o-ring in the pack of seals I got from Milners and he said he could fit that and also sort my rocker gasket leak out for the grand sum of £45 including VAT!!!!!! What a bargain!!!! I am getting it done on Friday. Moreover, he sent one of his lads out to replace my batteries at the house yesterday (200 yards away). The lad turned up in a Subaru Impreza - they all own one at the garage apparently and sorted my batteries. So, in terms of customer service, value for money and also just good old simple know how and knowledge of these cars I can recommend the guy at 'something something' Autosport on Old Chester Road in Bebington on the Wirral - number is 645 4817.

This leads me onto my next rant.... Why oh why oh why do some dick head mechanics try and rip you off so badly? The guy who fitted my seatbelt and fog light (and did a good job might I add) said it would cost me £120 for the rocker gasket to be fitted and said that I needed to send my fuel pump away to a diesel specialist for him to sort. This diesel 'specialist' also had a look at my car the following day coz I found out where he was and paid him a visit..... He didn't have a clue about what the problem was, didn't even 'feel' the pump so I am glad I didn't leave it to my mechanic to send it to him while they concocted a deal between themselves to rob me blind for 'work' that needed doing.

WHy are some meachnics REALLY good and some REALLY bad....... It's mad!!!!

I know but I would just rather let others do it. Now I have found someone who appears to know what he is doing.

Heh heh. Trust me, I would much rather pay someone to do it than try it myself (I have 6 houses to run... and a day job... and I have a son.... and my girlfriend has a baby...... So if I can get it done at a 'reasonable' price then I will).

You've not got much time to yourself then Your SURF is a 2.4 not a 2.5 as stated in your Profile (K Reg SSRX Surf 2.5 td Automatic )
