    Quick question maybe??

Will a hilux engine drop straight in to the Surf, I know they ain't got the turbo but are there any other main differences that would effect a swap.

Hello Nigel, I was just passing by and I saw your post....

You can fit a 2L Hilux pickup, LJ70 Land Cruiser, or Hiace Van engine straight into any MK1 or Mk2 Surf that was originally fitted with a 2LT without any modifications at all. Mechanically they are almost identical and the electronics don't really matter.

I don't know anything about automatic transmissions but with manual Surfs the flywheel diameter was increased to 236mm in 1990/91. The UK pickup and the Hiace van were still made with the smaller 229mm flywheel until at least 1995. This important because the bellhousing is also different and it has to match the diameter of the flywheel.

You can also fit a 2800cc 3L engine into a Surf that was originally fitted with a 2LT-E engine. There are no mechanical problems other than that the downpipe of the 3L exhaust doesnt match the Surf system but there might be electronic problems especially with automatic transmissions.

      Swop

You should have no problems if you are putting a engine from a maual to a manual gearbox except for possably the bellhousing.
