  • Heater matrix / hoses ( help )

    Morning guys,

Have just got my surf back Friday night after having a new head fitted. I have driven approx 20 miles in her ( not all at once ) when i hear a hissing noise coming from inside the car behind the dash region. As it was dark when i got in i have not had a chance to have a real close inspection but have been out with a torch and seen a little bit of the coolant on the footwell carpet so i know something has split or such like. I am at work from now untill 1900hrs this evening so will not get any chance to have a closer inspection today but i will need all the help i can get as to what it may be , is it serious , how easy should it be to rectify and how do i get a closer look anyway as it is behind the dash region( removal etc ). I have not driven it since incase of more damage ? Any help would be much appreciated chaps.

    Thanks
    Paul.

          Hi Paul,

Just a quick check you can do 1st...before the paniciing...

when your guy did the head...he would have had to remove the coolant hoses where they pass thru thu the bulkhead...these can be a bugger to get off..so he might have squashed them a bit when trying to free up the hoses..now the hoses are back on it might just be they are not sealing 100% so water is running down thru in to the footwell.

quick check..pop the bonnet after a run...and check were the 2 hoses pass thru the bulkhead at the back of the engine in the middle....run your finger underneath the join..and check for water..

          fingers crossed its this
