  • Shim Adjustment

Does my truck need these doing on regular basis? I have not had them checked for a year.
My local cowboy dealers said they never need doing as they are self adjusting. I kind of disbelieve them.
    Thanks

Valve clearance is not self adjusting. Having said that I have been told they can go for 300,000Km without needing adjustment provided engine maintenance has been done regularly. If you had them done recently and they did the job right then no need to worry for a long time. Older 2.4s with roller rockers were another story. These needed regular adjustment as they wore quite quickly.

What they means is they are a bugger to do so they can't be arsed.

Like nev said, they are adjustable, but rarely need altering, I've only done one set ever, and that was on Snoops truck.
