Turbo noise?

How noisy is your Turbo? any non-efi 2.4 guys, can you hear the turbo spooling up from in the cab with the windows shut? Doesn't sound rattley or rough, just whistles loudly, more so when reaching pressure and the green light comes on.

Yep can hear it in the cab, almost sounds like the blues & two's as it cuts in and out.

The other four cylinders are on the four wheels and the plugs they glow not spark.

Yep, me too, it whistles to me up to about 2.5k rpm then its above my limited hearing range

You have a green light that comes on another distraction

Turbo sounds whirry alright, always notice it more when from cold for some reason, sounds even better with walls on both side

Whistles alright

Yep, mine whistles, and loudly. I can't make up my mind when it is actually doing any good though. There doesn't seem to be any feeling of a boost, and once I have hit 60 (o/d off) or 70 (o/d on), there is no chance of accelerating even if I put my foot flat on the floor and keep it there. My usual approach is to switch the o/d on when I hit 60mph and it will then keep going up to 70-80mph?

It goes great on any downhill gradent, but uphill it needs 'momentum' to keep it going. It's as if there are revs, but no torque.

I am thinking that the thing needs a tune-up, but have no idea if anyone in the Bristol area can be trusted with the job.

I got a 2.4td and it whistles too!

When I forst heard it I thought there was something wrong, but you guys seem to be hearing the same thing. Ace!

My 3.0LTD whistles like Dj Alligator..hahah
If you really want ear piercing whistling just remove the front exhaust pipe (pipe coming out the engine ) and elt the turbo flow.
I noticed it the other day when my Cat Convertor cracked and in the process of removing that particular section i couldn't help resist to turn on the engine to listen to the turbo. Has anyone changed their Cat Convertor yet?

Not sure but what's the go over there in the UK does law implement emission controls to stop formation of ozone from photochemical smog? In Australia majority of new vehicles have a Cat Convertor. I have included a pic of it under my Surf.

Also another question do you guys have laws banning the imports of automobiles? In May 2003 the Australian government brought upon law to kill the Import Industry

I think all new cars from a certain date had to have cats fitted - even imports.

I don't think (hope) that we will ever have a law banning imports because the EU allows free trade on cars so that people in member states can import cars from other member states and car manufacturers can't stop them. I think there has even been some court cases where manufacturers have tried to make things difficult and been taken to task on it. However I am sure the Government will try over time to make it increasingly difficult - the SVA gets more difficult every year.
