Must admit, I'd generally suggest Toyota for the rad cap and 'stat. You want
to replace both, by the way, not just the cap. Without a 'stat, you'll always
have some form of cooling problem rearing it's head.

I am, however, going to be trying out an alternative compatible rad cap when
I get everything else working correctly. First time I've gone with a non OEM
one, but I thought I'd give it a whirl. Must admit, it does seem to create a
tighter seal between the top of the housing and the cap than the standard
cap. As to whether it works okay in any other regard, however, remains to be
          seen.

Youve got airlocks. Run the engine with the rad cap off and heaters ( rear too if you have it) on hot, Should warm up and get rid of any air in system. Try a search for more info, theres millions of threads and posts on the subject

Tried that one m8, not possible without stat in place as when engine is started all coolant pumps out of cap, thanx anyway.. Guess i'll wait for the stat to come.

Well guys the bad news has finally come. THE HEAD IS SHOT. took it into toyota yesterday and they fired the bad news at me this morning quickly followed by "we can replace it with a new one (not uprated) for around £2,500". When i finally came round i called stevo and hopefully it's going to him tomorrow. Well they say 2 heads are better than 1 i just didn't think i'd have to pay for another
