  • HELP-please?

    mines a 92 2.4 SSRX 54,000miles

Had hole in convaluted air hose between air filter and plastic turbo intake.
Took off old pipe and found oil pooling inside the plastic intake pipe!
Not streaming out but coating and pooling the inside of the pipe.

Fitted the new hose and started up-noticed a fair bit of blue smoke from exhaust.

Checked oil level- small drop about 1/5th of low-high level.
Checked coolant level- had to top up but only by 20-30mls.

    Any ideas??

    Turbo?
    cylinder head?

Could be turbo seals- if it is ,does this mean a new turbo or can the seals be replaced.

As you can guess car mechanic is not my occupation!!

Any help would be greatly received.
    Thanks

More like the oil is coming from the breather pipe, you will get oil in these pipes. There is a mod you can do to prevent it from getting up this far. Do a search on here, its here somewhere or if someone has it to hand I am sure they will post it.
As for the coolant, did you check it when it was stone cold as when its hot it expands in to the expansion tank and gets sucked back in as the engine cools.
When ever I check mine it is never right to the top of the cap always about 10mm down, never alters at all.

Probably turbo seals. Might be blow by from the rocker cover breather. I wouldn't worry too much until you have run it for a few miles with the new pipe on it then see if there is any blue smoke.

Turbo can be rebuilt, something upwards from £250. You can't do the sealos yourself as it needs a press and for the shaft to be balanced afterwards. Turbo technics seems to be the place to go.

      Cheers

Question has been answered but to put your mind at rest if the turbo was leaking you would find oil in the other pipe, the one with the metal intermediate piece.
