  • a couple of questions for the gurus

Firstly, my engine fan starts spinning as soon as I turn the ignition
key to the 2nd position, before the engine starts. Is this normal??

Secondly, found this lying in my engine bay. What is it and where should it
    be?? see pic below.

    Cheers

As for the first question, No, it's not normal.

The fan is controlled by a sensor on the thermostat housing. One sensor does the temp gauge, the other does the fan. I guess either your sensor is fubarred, or simply the wire has fallen off! I believe it's the front sensor that does the fan.
      It just does, OK?

That's the thermostat housing with the rad cap on top.
Remove three nuts to seperate the housing to change the thermostat.

see, still no links needed!....................... ...I need a drink!

It's the air temp sensor, without it, I guess you would be using slightly more fuel as the ECU will be telling the fuel pump to send more fuel to the injectors 'cos the ECU thinks the engine is still cold.
