rough idle/ smoke on start up

hi fellow surfees,
now and again my beast will idle badly on start up and slight whitish smoke for five mins then settles down runs perfect!!
have changed glow plugs twice in a year and had relay etc checked.have tried warming the plugs three times before starting this sometimes helps but i must admit the light doesnt stay on too long and end up listening for the relay to click out!has anyone had problems with the diesel filter primer pump sucking in air? wondered if it was worth temporarily bypassing the primer with say a ford straight in / out fuel filter to see if any better...anyone else done this? dont know why i think its a fuel prob but any help appreciated as i gave the postman an asthma attack other day (seriously) cheers

Sounds to me that your injectors need replacing/re-conditioning. They're dribbling instead of spray/misting.
