2.4 overheating -sorry another!

hi sorry about yet another overheating problem post! but you guys seem really helpfull.
basically i have just bought a 2.4, now i was aware of the fact they are 'prone to cracked heads, so i bought one that had just had a brand new head, rad etc. but it overheats intermitently, i first noticed bubbles coming up through the expansion tank - but the gauge read normal. then it overheated - on gauge this time, so stopped straight away, let it cool etc. now a bit scared to drive it. i am hoping it could be an air lock from when the new head went on? im guessing whatever caused the first head to crack is still a problem?! does it sound terminal? i mean is there other common faults that cause overheating?

do you know if they fitted a new rad cap and thermostat when the head and radiator was done.if not put new on and make sure you get all the airlocks out the system heaters set to hot blowers on full rad cap off and top up rad with engine running

cheers guys, not sure, i think it had a thermostat and assumed the new radiator came with the cap, i think it defo worth replacing these first anyway! once again cheers!

Top Tip.......With a stone cold engine, remove rad cap, heaters set to hot, top up coolant right to the top of the thermostat housing (or rad) leave cap off and leave for one hour. Then re-check level and top up again if necessary. keep checking every hour 'till you go to bed. Before you go to bed, put rad cap on front seat, (incase you forget it's off!) then re-check in the morning, if level is still at the top, replace cap as all air will be gone. I did this last month and no airlocks.

the 2.4 if i remember rightly the rad cap is on the thermostat housing and not actually on the rad
