deisel filler cap

Hi, just wondering is it normal , (when opening the deisel filler cap), to here a sucking sound, to be honest I'm not sure if its actually sucking in air or blowing it out, I have'nt noticed any driving problems regarding lack of power etc, however MPG seems to be quite low at the moment, Have I got a blocked breather?, Has anyone else had these symptoms or is it normal to hear this sound when opening the cap on a 2nd gen 2.4.
