went to Toyota main dealer and he had a look under hood and checked on his pc and said it was the EGR unit it was about £170.
hope that clears it up. must be the EGR.
I have just blocked up 1 pipe.
My truck has never ran so well it responds far better and no smoke at all

Ok cease fire..The Toyota guy had a diagram of my years truck engin No's chassis etc and according to his pc it was the only thing that would fit the puzzle he checked it twice..so what conclusion should I come to now!!
what signes will I have when i drive it? as to what it is..
Thanks whatever it is my truck runs far better than it ever has from start to acceleration..but i also have to say that when I switch off the engine its not so smooth..will this story run...will I make Reading today from Dorset? who knows

THAT is the actuator for the throttle body butterfly.
The butterfly shuts when you take your foot off the go pedal.
Its primary functions are:
1.Create a vacum to operate the EGR , not needed if egr is killed.
2.Smooth the idle , its a diesel !! who gives a F... about smooth idle
3. Stop the rough shake on shut-down , see above
4. Create a nice big back pressure to stall the turbo and induce "turbo lag"
5. Generaly make a nuisance of itself and F-up what little performance these motors have.
