  • cam belt fitting

hi i have just put a new cylinder head on a 2.4 T surf LN130 Iam putting a new cam belt on and it seams loose round the injector pump and tight round the tenshinor. I have tried to move it round by a tooth so the tenshinor works but it wont slided over the injector pump. Anyone with any tips on this

get all marks in line ,put the belt on,then turn the engine clockwise slowly with a bar, with the tensioner bolt loose, the tensioner should take up all your slack.

Dont worry mate, i done mine and the no matter what i did (and i have changed some belts in my time!), the pump mark went out half a tooth. Its is fine. The engine must run to quite loose tolerances?

When you install the belt have the Crank one tooth before the timing mark. One tooth anti clockwise. Place the belt on Cam, Pump, Crank, Tensioner and Idler. Release the Tensioner. Turn the Crank two revolutions.Tighten Tensioner and turn two revolutions again. Check all timing marks line up. This is the method I use and it takes the slack out of the belt that seems to be present between the Pump and Crank.
