  • Nasty grinding clunk clunk noise on full right lock

Loud clunking when parking on full right lock, I think from the right side but need to investigate to be sure. I assume it's the outer CV joint on the right side - rubber boot looks fine, so I suppose just at the end of its life.

The vehicle is due for MOT end of July, so I'll get it done early so I've time to replace it if it fails, but is it a tricky job to do?

I've had a squint under the wheel and it *looks* simple enough to get to, but will I need a ball-joint splitter or any other specialist tools? Also, how much is a new CV joint and where do I get one from, and what else do I need (new boot, grease etc..)???

    thanks for your time

Check your steering bump stops first if you haven't already. A dab of grease could save you a lot of time a money!

There are pic's here if you don't know how to check.

Great, thanks Jez, I'll give that a try.

Incidentally, what sort of grease and what size greasegun end do I need to grease up all the nipples on the drivetrain (the ones shown on the sunvisor card) - The card is in Japanese but there's a 22mm figure shown, which sounds like a $$$$$$ big nipple

A standard grease gun will be fine. Used a lithium based grease.
If you intend greasing the balljoints also, you need some M6 thread
        nipples.
