  • Advice for prospective new Surf owner?

    Hi all,
Currently in th emarket looking for my first Surf - budget is limited.
Was looking at the 2.4's so as to have a smaller enviromental impact the the larger 3L's.
its just after reading all the head problems I'm now slightly wary.
I'm thinking of going to see one I've just seen on ebay, item no. 4626108289.
It was imported a little while ago and has been regularly serviced since. Also has new tyres, exhaust and drive belts.

Would any of you kind souls have any advice - what to listen for or look for under the bonnet. My mechanic skills at pretty limited to changing a wheel or a spark plug .
I'm sure this kind off question has been asked many times before so apologies

Thanks in advance and all the best

    Mike

I would go for a 3.0 if you can afford it, I don't know about emissions specifically but they are meant to be similar MPG as a 2.4 so would expect about the same emissions?

The 3.0 is a much much better engine and way better to drive, plus no head cracking issue that is well known on the 2.4. Having owned both I cannot get across just how much nicer the 3.0 is, it is not just a bit better it is way way better.

There is a faq on my site with some general advice when shopping around:

Plus obviously searches on the forums should get you loads of info.

EDIT: ianwoodzie - beat me to it!
      No longer a Surf owner.
