fault code 10

Hi all
i have a 2.4 2lt engine and just got a fault code ten off it says on here thats the starter switch, can anyone tell me what a starter switch is?
its turning over fine but is taking a little while to start from cold

found out what the fault code 10, start switch, STA circuit is so if anyone else has probs this pic should help.

Mines been a bugger in the cold to start too, i tested the heat plug timer and asked myself is prolonged cold starting with 2 batteries gonna do much harm?
Then i took up the slack on the throttle cable and tried to start it with foot to the floor (just like an old Gardner engine) n she fires up a treat in about 7 seconds.
