Oil type

Hello again all,

Started a separate thread on this one instead of including it on my other current thread. Been reading some of the archived material on the forum, (when will I learn), and started myself wondering. Is the following oil:

suitable for use in the 2.4td engine?

I think that's the oil for petrol engines.
That is the same make of oil I use, except it has a red lable and is 15W40 semi-synthetic for diesels including turbocharged. It's cheap too.

I surmised it might be the wrong one. Picked up a 4 gallon drum today, and didn't realise till I got back this evening what the specs were on the drum. Just as a little side trip, (the amount of info that you can find on this forum could be construed as either a blessing or a curse - relevant link follows: http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html), , I take it the cf/b3 rating isn't quite beefy enough for turbo-charged diesels? I can see I'm probably going to be trekking back through tomorrow to get this oil changed. It will teach me to double check in future if nothing else.

Being the sad devil that I am, checked with Comma today over the oil spec. Apparently, CE rating or above is suitable for turbo diesels. Just another nugget of possibly useless info for the archives.

If you don't mind me asking, what type of price does the diesel lite oil come in at?

I think I paid £7.99 for 4.5l container, but you need about 7.5l for an oil change. The 1l bottles cost £2.48, so it's worth buying two 4.5 litre containers and have a bit left for topping up in between changes.

I'll have to ask. The curiosity is killing me. Who flogs it at that price? Or, are you one of the enviable people with a trade account somewhere? The cheapest I have seen it upto just is about £14-00 for the five litre and £40-00 for the twenty.

looks the same, smells the same when it drips on the exhaust... and i'm guessing it comes from under the sea where some fishes died milions of years ago!...


my brother in law works for haliburton... i'll ask him if he knows what the difference really is... that'll be a great xmas dinner chat!! (beats the cement chat!)
