  • 2.4td WONT START!!!!!!

    hi

just went out to surf, got in, turned key.... CLICK.

    nothing.

    turned key again.......CLICK.

    nothing.

repeated this for five minutes. (its been doing this for a while but usually gives in)

    nothing.

    dead.

could it be knackered solenoid in starter motor?
had battery problems before but got new batteries and doubt its the same problem.

its not even turning over the starter motor, it just clicks.

    could anyone shed any light?
i gotta go to work later.

    ta.
    its broken again..... isnt it.

To be honest, I'm not sure. But I expect they could get them the same day, as the Surf starter motor must share the same parts as other starters.

i rang our local toyota dealer

he wanted over 190 quid for solenoid and bushes!!!!!!

            i hung up.

where can i get the kits from?

i rang milner 4x4 and they do a new starter motor (for £135)
            but not a kit.

'spose ill have to wait a few days after all.

Did you just ask for the contacts? Thats all you need.

there is a trail fix, pull the starter and have a look at the solonoid contacts, one normally erodes, and ends up lower than the other one, so when the plunger goes down, the low side doesn't touch the ring. You can either file the high one down so they both touch again, or build the lower side up if you have access to brazing equipment.

i phoned them, they said they dont do a kit for the 2.4 td.

they said to try toyota, for the plunger and contacts.

know where i can get their number?

put her in gear and rock her back and forth once or twice, then try starting again, you wont know till you've tried it

might get you going short term

Just look up a local dealer in your area.

sounds like solonoid / wigan alternaters will take starter motor off and replace solonoid and put starter back on for £85 with guarentee that is the price for my 3.0L TD. mine is doing the same click click click brrrrrrrm or just find a steep hill

                              whoa!

whoever said taking the starter out of a 2.4td was easy, was obviously taking the ****.

good job ive only got skinny fingers!

started at 11 this morn, finally got the starter out at 4!!

havent even checked solenoid yet, too dark.
but ill check tommorow, maybe just file it down if needs be.
