  • 4WD selector

Bit confused as to how to use this.
My new surf, 1992, has L4, N and H on the selector. What do i use and when ?

    Is N neutral?
L4 is low 4 wheel drive?
    H is for normal driving, 2WD ??

    Thanks guys.

It's all explained in the FAQ section.

      H....normal every day driving
L4 is low range 4 wheel drive for steep slippery hills, you can use this as a hill descent i.e. put lever into L4 main lever into D and take feet off pedals.
H with the ADD button pressed in is for slippery road surfaces.
N is, well, take a wild guess!

Thanks mate. Also, i have read the FAQ< but thanks for pointing it out to me

WHats the point of neutral on that as well as standard neutral?

Will pressing the ADD button in H4 cause the problems associated with using 4wd on 'grippy' surfaces?

        thanks

Yep. Only use 4wd on slippery surfaces, or where the front wheels can slip, otherwise the transmission will wind up and get tight.

Basically you got two gearboxes, one for the engine, one for the 4WD.

thanks again, so make sure 4WD light is off on dash unless on slippery.

excuse my stupidness, but is the 2WD front or rear?

Rear wheel drive, so don't go 'hoofing' it round any bends!

Its a throw-back to days when you could have PTO equipment running of the gearbox, you could power stuff without the car driving off down the road!!!
