  • Air Con light flashing?????

When I switch the a/c on it works fine for about 30 secs then the revs drop and the light flashes and the a/c stops working. Had it recently regassed.

Any ideas or pointers would be great, cheers.

Sounds like you need it Re-gassing as its low on pressure. Most likely a leak somewhere

      Thanks for the quick reply.
Just had it regassed and changed the gas to 134 etc. Surely it couldn't have gone ping that quickly? When I first switch it on it pumps out cold air.

Sounds like your fans on the aircon rad are stuck, probably with mud and gunk. Do a quick search and your'll find plenty of answers.

when you had it re gassed with r134 did they do anything else to it mines a 91 and will only use r12(now illegal due to health/enviroment hazrds) or r24... without replacing /upgrading parts putting r134 straight into the system will just leak out again i think??

Yeah He changed some bits on the compressor and put a new silvery thingy on the front grille, kind of a coil type looking thing with a sight glass in it.

Strangely had the truck out today and the a/c worked for about 5 mins before tripping out.

With the light flashing I would think it must be something simple.Theres no horrendous noises coming from the compressor or fans.It just seems that the clutch is disengaging for some unknown reason.

I'd take it back to the aircon guy who did the job and tell him to sort it as it's probably something he did wrong or didn't do that has caused it to fail, presuming it was working properly before he played with it. If it was a repair job then he obviously didn't do it properly.

It was fine till I took it to France in the hot weather.

Can I say that? Oops sorry.

                  And the answer is;

One of the a/c fans had stopped working.

This is soon to be remedied,so,watch this space..........

                        CON AIR.... Air CON!

Just had my air con looked at:

                        before:
R12 type connectors (screw type, looks like tire valve)
press button, steady air con light, compressor clutch engages, engine revs up, 3-5 seconds, then disengages, revs back down, flight flashing.

                        work:
Note: wire on condenser clutch missing - fixed it.
Check current gas level: no gas at all.
pressurize with nitrogen: revealed a leak at the sight window and into condenser.
                        fix leaks, replace leaky seals.
Re-pressureize - no other leaks detected.
change valves for modern types (push on)
add gas with oil and dye (to spot leaks), check pressure - all OK
test - ARSE!!! light flashes etc.
checked all relays, solenoid, other bits.
NOTED: its all full of mud down under!!!!!! probably needs to be washed a bit.

OUTCOME: £140 for an hours work, fault diagnosis, leak fix, regas and no cooling, BUT we think we know what to do next. out with the hosepipe tonight. (plus vat, but cash works wonders eh?? know what i mean. still feel conned at that price.)

half of worcestershire on my drive...

OK, ive wqashed the $$$$ out of the engine bay and condenser. I now have half of worcestershire on my drive. actually, about 2 INCHES of sandy soil came out!!! And after 2 hours its STILL COMING!!!!

I reckon I've pretty much cleaned as much as possible out of the condenser. However... the fans are not kicking in on the condenser. I will have to remove the bash plate and get them fans out I think.

The re-gas seems to be holding pressure, no dye leaks vissible yet.

The aircon light is staying on longer, about 10 - 15 msecs now, before disengaging the compressor clutch.

Cycling the aircon every 10 secs to fool it into thinking its running properly, I get niice cold air out the vents. So, the aircon is working. Great!! Now to see why its cutting out - any ideas boyz? any experience??

                          still 'ot.

It is because your fans are not working
It could be that $$$$e has got in them and seized them up. I had the same problem on my 2.4.
if you take the fans out put some wd40 in the breather holes and connect them up to a 12v source to see if they work or not.
