Can anybody help ? i have a 1992 2.4 surf, i have had it for 4 months, it has covered 100,000 k, a couple of weeks ago i went to cornwall in it (covered 1500k) i drove it hard and had no probs. this weekend i went on away and after 100 miles the temperature gauge went up in the red and overheated, i did not cook it, i had been doing between 70-85 mph. the AA came and put water in and it was ok (it was checked before setting out). i did a further 100 miles, and used it the next day it was fine. i then drove home at 70 mph (200 miles) and had no problems and it used no water. the only difference on the journey when it overheated was it a very hot day (30 degrees) i had 4 passengers and i had just fitted new spots on the A bar. i have been back a few days and no problems and no water loss. i am confused i thought the head had gone but i have no symptoms, it runs perfect no water loss. any ideas ? could it be a combination of a very hot day, and full load,

    Hi paul,
as you say, a conbination of all of the above.
Also, are your spotlights obstructing the air flow through the rad? and slow down a bit, 2.4s don't like sustained high speed, fully laden cruising, especially in very hot weather!

As Bushwaker states could be load of things thermostat, air lock,
low on water to start with, the list goes on m8.

The best way to check the head is to get it preasure tested.
Mine had gone for some time before I had it changed drove ok
then now and again chucked the water out into the expansion
bottle, then ok for a while no other signs apart from that.
Till it finaly went with the white smoke from the exhaust
water chucking out of the bottle again.

Just keep an eye on the water level, keep the speed down and
have a little something in the bank just in case.

      Cheers me dears Chris
