Bought my surf and was tolde by the guy that the aircon doesn't work , but just needs regasing. What an idiot I was believing him, got the aircon guy over filled the systems and woosh out came the gas. The guys says that its the condenser, I'm a little worried because he said that without even looking at it, but said he could tell by the noise, I can get one through a main toyota dealer for 183 squid, plus then I have to pay for the guy to fit it and regas the system, getting closer to the 400-500 squid mark just to get the damn aircon working. Does anyone know where I can a cheaper condenser????????????????????? ???

I can live without it but wonder if this would contribute to overheating problems. I borrowed a friends sangyong thingy for a couple of days it was really great but he told me not to use the air con because it was broken and if I switched it on his engine would over heat. I have been working rebuilding classic cars for years but never had anything to do with diesels unless Fordson tractors and pre 1960 landrovers, only air con was with driving rag tops like triumph heralds. So haven't got a clue.

Unlikely that Air Con would contribute to overheating unless there was a real problem with the engine, or if the Surf was an auto one with the underslung aircon rad and it was blocked up with dirt which could cause a build up of heat in the engine bay, however this would be the case whether the aircon was working or not. The Aircon rad's on the auto are a little vulnerable however if the bash plate is fitted then they should be pretty much OK except for the biggest rock hit.
Try and get it regassed and see what happens, I would hope that it is OK, the gas does leak out over time and they all need regassing at some point. Need to get R24 in it as you can't get R12 any more and it requires a major rebuild of the aircon system (seals etc) to use R134.
