  • adding seats

    Hello,

    Just a quick question,

Im off to wales camping in the surf next week, cant wait!!

However some extra mates are tagging along so ive fitted 2 extra rear facing seats in the rear of the truck.
Although leggroom is a little lacking they will be ok and the seats actually fit really well, they look the part.

I just wanted to check how legal this was,
All i can find on the internet is that its the law to wear seatbelts if they are fitted.
However there are no belts fitted so technically its ok??

Also this means im gonna have 7 people in the surf and a trailor on the back, pulling up and down those welsh hills, ill be ok right???
or am i going to get shouted at by you all for even suggesting that she wont cope!!
    (1993 SSR-X 2.4)

Also anything routine i can do/check before the trip

    Any help much appreciated,

    thanks

    Tim

The surf is classed as a 5 seater, so if you have an accident with 7 people in you could be in trouble.

saw a 3.0 surf overtake me on the M25 today and had 2 kids in the boot facing out with the back window down.
They were waving to me while I was trying to find out what they were sitting on.... answer = nothing!

Where did you get the seats...?Any pictures...? Where did you mount them to...?

Surely fitting seatbelts to suit shouldn't be too much effort, trouble?

There used to be a place in north London called Quick Fit (not kwik fit!!!). They specialised in supplying rear seat belts to cars that originall hed none. If you have rear seats in your Surf they may very well be a good option to look at, if I can get the number I will.

          Cheers

PS My wife has a 7 seater laguna, the so called family pack, that is classed as a five seater despite the boot seats as was my old Volvo 240. You may wish to do some research reagrding the insurance side.
