    right from the begining,

    head cracked in several places
    so
    had a recon engine!

today have just done the final stages of fitting it all back together including bolting on all the other bits such as starter motor, rad etc...

so it came to the big switch on, batteries had been charged AND ...........

............it was dead, no electrics, central locking or lights and can hear starter motor clicking.

WHAT HAS GONE WRONG, OR BEEN FORGOTTEN?

Its a power thing, how long were the batteries sitting, how old are they, its just possible they are 5 year old batteries and while you have charged them they are unable to hold it.

Yeah. What Jim said.Put a multimeter on the battery terminals while trying to crank engine.A large voltage drop will mean they are dead.

are your lights working?try puttin them on and then turning it over if they go very dim its more likely the batterie(s) past it sometimes when they go dead flat they just wont hold their charge anymore....you could try puttint them on very slow trickle charge?? have you tried jumping with leads?
