      I would say that you would crack the head without doubt as the clean air is a lot cooler than the recirculated exhaust gases. I would say most certainly will cause hot & cold spots and lead to damage.

                  further to this conversation
                  today i found out we are not alone on this issue
                  the local land rover main dealer up here uses the ball bearing option on all of its used vehicles, ball bearing version so it cannt be seen by customer or mot stations
                  Surf.gone but not forgottendisco now gone aswell
