what would happen if the egr was altered to let clean air in, instead of smelly old exhaust gas???

I would say that you would crack the head without doubt as the clean air is a lot cooler than the recirculated exhaust gases. I would say most certainly will cause hot & cold spots and lead to damage.

Yeah, cos it'd just be running lean, would run great, for a bit, then burn a bit hole in a piston or valve.

today i found out we are not alone on this issue
the local land rover main dealer up here uses the ball bearing option on all of its used vehicles, ball bearing version so it cannt be seen by customer or mot stations
