cam noise

Just got my surf drove back from wales to cleveland great
went out last night 20 mile trip suddenly developed a cam rattle from no were got home ok but now it sounds like an old ford cortina any ideas?

Have the rocker cover off damn quick, probably worn out a tappet shim and it has sprun out. Get it done or do it yourself damn quick, I found out to my cost that they don't like running like this for long, you will possibly break a valve with all the associated problems that will cause - head, piston and bore damage and possibly big ends and bent crank.

If it came on suddenly then it isn't normal wear, it's something broken.

got rocker box of been told inlt 20-30 outlet 40-50 dont know wich is inlet and which is outlet

just been on to a deisel fitter and he says that is probably a stuck injector

To check shims (and to change out) you'll need:
Tappet feeler gauge
LARGE flat screwdriver
Stanley knife or fine watchmakers screwdriver
pliers
A friend
Micrometer

I changed 4 over weekend, took less than 1 hour

just took it to a deisel garage to have injectors checked there ok so have put it in to find the problem as nobody is quite sure yet will keep you posted

just an update its not injectors its not cam,valves ect now it seems likely to be piston problems anybody had this trouble or just my luck now to find a local garge who can handle it in cleveland
