Blimey!!! I do the same driving as you, mostly B roads and a few A roads, and I'm getting about 22 mpg.
I think you should look at an air and fuel filter change first, followed by getting your tracking checked to try and cure the 'shaking ' prob.
Also check your tyre pressures, should be about 33 psi al round. and get some Redex fuel injector cleaner in yer tank.

As far as you wobbles go, my wobbles and handling probelms were cured with a new set of rear tyres, getting the Front Wheels balanced and setting the pressure in all tyres to 30 psi. Runs ve smooth now, as far as the consumption!! I am up and down the hills in rural Cork (I mean C road UK style) I still manage a respectable 24 mpg (33 mph at 65-70mph) on the UK motorways.

I'd get your jeep serviced if I were you and check all of your plastic airpipes coming from the airfilter to the Turbo etc.

            You may be pleasantly surprised.

Out of interest, what happened in the end?! Did you get the consumption and shakes / wobbles all sorted? I'm interested because I recently became a Surf owner and am just getting used to everything about the vehicle. Interested in tyre pressures, balancing, consumption, etc.

                Let me know, cheers

I was amazed at the 37 mpg I was getting - until I discovered the speedo had been converted to mph but the odometer was still reading kms.

Very good! At least 23 or so MPG is far better than 9!!
