  • turning an aircon rad into a trans oil cooler

as my air con looks to be u/s and towing the trailer gets her all hot and bothered on hills this seems a good plan... people on here and the aus site have mentioned its doable... has anyone actually done it? seems like straight forward chop some hoses, join some hoses, top it up and grin... whats the catch? and what do you flush the rad with?
    it's in me shed, mate.

Will the RAD cope with the pressure ?

I replaced my auto rad with a manual one(I allready had it on the truck Iwas breaking) And then fitted a seperate oil cooler I brought off ebay. I look at it this way
            1. More coolant in the rad
            2. No hot oil going through the rad to heat water up
            3. The auto box oil is probably getting the same amount of cooling

Cost of doing it this way
13 row mgb oil cooler from ebay £30
            2m of pipe + fittings £10

yeah that was plan A, looking for a spot to put oil cooler, and one thing lead to another....manual rad also looses the restriction caused by the std oil cooler i understand. is the manual rad a straight swap?(as a consideration, i am a world class tightwad.this is why the use what i got plan appealed..)

Yes the manual rad is a straight swap. I put the oil cooler in front of the rad but not up against it. I will try and get some pics tomorrow.
