I seem to be going a little faster than my speedo is telling me! I got my missus to drive down a long road, where the speed limit is a boring 40 mph, with myself leading at said speed restriction and the reading on the surf speedo said 30 mph, then when going at 30 she said the speedo read about 22-23 mph. Now i have to try and stay approx 10 mph under speed limit,so i dont get stung! I wondered if i had the standard wheels fitted to my surf and wondered if the wrong tyre's are fitted, tyre sizes on mine are 31x10.50 R15 and the bloke who changed them said they might be the wrong size. Do i change wheels or can i alter my speedo?

my speedo used to be a little out, then i swapped to the 31/10.5 tryes and now it is similar to yours, i followed my housemate the other day and asked her to flash her hazards when her speedo said 30, mine was reading 22! by this logic it would seem that when i am doing 66 on my speedo im actually doing 90 - but this is wrong as im clearly not going that fast on the motorway so i believe the speedo is more wrong at lower speeds but seems to be ok-ish at higher speeds.
i wouldnt bother changing your tryes over this, just be aware of it and youll be ok.

My girl came into the country wearing 31's, I've recently purchased a Sat Nav kit, and found the speedo to be dead accurate up to 40mph the she under reads, so with an indicated 80 on the clock (private road) the Sat Nav was reading 75. It is possible that your speedo is reading more accuratly than the other persons, as manufactorers are known to intentially make their speedos over read. Or I could be completely wrong, but as yet no speed cameras have flashed me, but then I don't know what speed they're set at either. Oh well I'll let you know if ever I get pulled!!Gone from 4x4 to 1x2

I would have thought underreading is when the spedo says you're going at X but you are actually going faster
might be an idea if we all get our terminology straight before we start saying one way is normal!
im now more confused than i was this morning when i poured orang juice on my cereal and put my tea back i the fridge after milking it.

erm... is this not over reading? since the speedo is reading greater than your actual speed.

If it makes you feel a bit better, my baby came home withe the speedooo changed to MPH, although I do prefer the KPH cos it looks as if you are hitting warp 6 on the motorway,
I digress.....
I have found that when you hit 50MPH you can still hit the go faster peddle and you are still doing 50, then in half a second it jumps to 65.
I think there is a dead fly or some other complicated thing stuck in the flux capacitor or warp coil.
Either that or I need sleep.
I do find hitting the dash helps when you see a speed camera!Last edited by Djandco; 31 March 2005, 02:29.Back in the world of Surfdom
