  • thermostat gasket and water pump

    Morning all,

Fitted the new head at the weekend with no probs and I'm thinking of replacing the waterpump just to be sure it's a good one (about £38). Do you think it's worthwhile? Is it a simple case of bolting in the new pump with a new gasket, or will it need sealant on it or priming etc..?

Secondly, do I need a gasket between the thermostat housing and the thermostat cover? Nothing was there when I took it to bits, but some muppet has been at this before trying to cure its overheating problem (the same muppet who forgot to do up 4 head bolts) and could well have left it out.

    thanks
    James

Yes! Replace the pump.I always use Permatex Aviation Form a Gasket on things like water pump gaskets etc.May be under some other name over there. It's a thick brown liquid that you brush on thinly and works great.

Thermostat has a rubber seal that fits around OD and a gasket is not required.
