  • Tow Bar

    Hi all,
Need to fit a towbar to my '93 Surf 2.4TD, LN130.
This one has the spare under the rear end.
    1) Where's the best/cheapest place to get a tow bar which I can fit myself?
    2) Are there standard fitting points already in the chassis?
    3) Will the bracket foul the spare wheel?

Advice and assistance gratefully accepted. Many thanks.

I got the witter one from towbarwarehouse.co.uk although possibly not the cheapest place.

Yes there are standard fitting points and no drilling is required.

Standard sized wheels/tyres will fit fine - if you have 31" or bigger I am not 100% if it will fit or not, perhaps someone else here can answer?

    details of mine here:

got mine from towequipe off ebay, as above, easy fitting to standard holes in the chassis and fine with standard wheels.
When I looked into it I got the impression Witter were slightly more expensive but more safety/strength tested and maybe slightly more high quality. Towequipe slightly cheaper and strong enough. I have pulled quite a big trailler and smacked it hard on the floor off roading with no sign of weakness.

Thanks for that everyone. The 'fitting a towbar' info was particularly helpful.

Have looked at both sites and prices seem very reasonable (my RAV4 cost £225!) but I guess you gets what you pay for.

I intend to tow a Twin Horse box with two quite large horses. Each horse weighs about 500Kg so the whole trailer loadaed will weigh about 2000Kgs. Its a twin axle trailer so noseweight should not be an issue, and I believe this will be within the Surfs towing limit. But is there anything else I need to be wary of?
