I'm in Durham (in Consett) and am in the process of replacing the head on my Surf - a new head from Stevo with all the bits should be in the post, and we're refitting it ourselves as soon as all this snow melts. If you decide to replace it yourself rather than pay (which seems to cost around £1500 or more) let me know if you need any help (albeit the help of a first-time head remover! - I won't pretend to be an expert).
So far, we have the head off and everything is now being cleaned ready for re-assembly. The only problems we have had have been a seized exhaust manifold bolt (which had to be the one right at the back) , the aircon rad being in the way (solved by ditching it completely as the pump was making a nasty noise anyway), and the inlet manifold bolts being completely inaccessible - in the end with the help a great big hoist we lifted the head off with both manifolds still attached, and intend to refit it in the same way.
I also have a collection of step-by-step photos that we took as we removed the head and all the other bits, so hopefully we can put it back together again without missing anything (fingers crossed, touch wood, sacrifice a goat etc..etc..)

Oh! got a new water pump fitted +rad recored, seemed common sense really!
I saw STEVO yesterday & he mentioned that your head had'nt turned up yet.
He just called me - apparently it's DHL being a bit rubbish - a DHL van drove up my road the other day, then turned around and buggered off...typical !
