  • gears failing to engage?

Here the thing. When i get to a junction and stop, it takes a few seconds for first gear to engage? When i stop and try to reverse i have to give it a good rev before it will clunk in to gear?
Heard something about a filter getting clogged and in need of a clean? there is fluid in the system. Any sugestions would be great.

    Cheers

There may be fluid in the system, but is there enough. First thing to check is that there is the correct qty, best checked with a warm transmission remember to cycle the box thru all settings several times, then put in park and check level within a minute or so, against the hot side of the stick. (keep engine running whilst checking)
Also note the color and condition of the fluid, if very dark or burnt smelling, time for a change.
