  • Lost my Dashboard virginity last night...

Ha ha! Finally got round to removing my dashboard last night in order to replace the stereo. Not the ideal job to do on a dark sub zero evening I know but since some dumb scrote pinched the face-off, and then gave up on getting the main box out, I was left with a useless hunk of metal in my dash.

Replaced the JVC with what I assumed was the same model, only to find that the wiring was different on the back! Grrrr... Off to the shops for some connectors.

Anyway, my point is that it's not to bad a job once you get into it, and having this forum made things a hell of a lot easier. Thanks!

P.S. Still couldn't suss out how to fix the windscreen blowers, maybe next time...

    Blowers!

    The dash is great! lol
Had a prob with my windscreen blowers not di-misting my windscreen last winter! Turns out so i'm told, a big chunk of plastic was missing under the dash! The air was just getting blown everywhere but the windscreen! Had to make an air guide out of cardboard! A bit fiddly but it now works fine. All i can say is thank you blue peter you did come in handy one day!

Swansea surfer- see you down the gower!!!

Read the bit about the blowers, think mine may be the same bizarelly enough. Seems to be no way of directing air onto windscreen! Maybe I'll have to do a blue peter job too. See you down Llangennith one day. Maybe we should organise some sort of surf local meet up in the summer. Only problem with Hill End is no dogs! Shame...

I want to remove the stereo from my Surf - it came with a £550 DAB radio/CD/mp3 player thingy, which is completely wasted through the crap door speakers, so I want to sell it on Ebay.

How much dash do I need to remove to get the unit out?

There is an excellent guide to changing the stereo available at installdr for the 2nd Gen models, it is for a LHD US 4Runner but perfectly applicable to the Surf. Click here to view it. Wiring adapters to connect an ISO standard stereo to the Toyota loom are available from the forums very own shop here.

That is one comprehensive guide! (Wish there was one like that for cylinder head removal )

            Thanks very much
