  • hmmm, tyre rub?

hi guys, ive just been looking around for some new tyres and wheels for my surf (2.4 SSRX '93) and came across:

    http://www.4x4accessoriesandtyres.co...es_chrome.html

but after ringing and chatting with the guy he said that the colway remould 31/10.5's on 15x8 wheels are likely to rub, but many of you have suggested in these forums that 31/10.5's will fit an unmodified surf. . .

can anyone clear this up for me please?

    cheers!

They will fit, i have fitted slightly largere than that with no rubbing so you should have no problem.
If it aint broke...........give it some more abuse!!!!!!!!

really? what size did you fit? he said that the remoulds were actually slightly larger than the new ones thats why they'd rub.

but they surely cant be that much bigger. . .

I fitted 265/75/16 which i am told are slightly bigger than 31/10.5/15, you may well find that after fitting them you will want to lift 2" anyway cos it just looks better with bigger tyres in which case L.A.Supertrux do the rear springs and wind your torsion bars up.

Check the off set of the new wheels are corect or they may
stick out from the body work or foul the brakes/suspention etc.
          Good price though.

Its because of the 8" wheels, if the extra inch is offset, it will move the tyre out, and on full lock the tyre is close to the bulkhead, moving the wheel out puts it nearer, and if the suspension is on full bump, a big tyre will touch there.

Its important not to get UK solid axle pick wheels, as they have a differet offset to IFS trucks, make sure you get wheels from a 98 or newer IFS pickup if they don't know the Surf.

judgeing buy our truck with 7" rims and 1" wheel spacers, they should be OK, but has been said, remolds come up a generous 31" so you may still have problems, but how severe is different for most trucks.
