I am having trouble locating ANYONE who can provide me with technical specs needed for dianostic diesel pump timing for my 1992 2.4 SSR Limited Manual Surf. Does anyone out there have this information, know of someone who does or where I might find it?? KB

If you can't get the Diesel pump to be timed correctly using the timing marks on the pulley then as Gemeini says you aren't going to be able to do much about it, you will need someone to investigate the pump and rebuild if neccessary.Originally posted by KEITH BOWYERI am having trouble locating ANYONE who can provide me with technical specs needed for dianostic diesel pump timing for my 1992 2.4 SSR Limited Manual Surf. One point, when doing the head I noticed that it is very difficult to get the pump lined up correctly as there is a lot of spring in it. Had to line everything up one tooth out to get the correct timing.

It was a supposed diesel pump specialist who told me he was unable to get pump specs from Toyota as the car is an import! He said that if I could obtain pump tech specs he could re-build pump fpr me. Thanks for reply. Exchange head fitted, all reassembled as per timing marks but seem to have lost pulling power. Will have to try your idea one tooth out this time. Make sure all pulleys are one tooth out though (one tooth turned clockwise works best). That way everything should be set up correct.
I presume it is a 2LTE engine. If it was a 2LT I might have some info in the Max Ellery Manual.

when fitting the timing belt the pump wheel does spring back, line the timing marks up correctly cam & crankshaft, fit the belt putting it over the pump timing cog last, this way you can hold it in position while you slide the belt on, then tension it, turn it over one whole turn to make sure they all line up again[font=Times New Roman][size=3]
