I have recently acquired a 1998 3.0 surf for towing it’s completely solid underneath and has plenty of power so is ideal for what I need it for except I cannot get 4wd to engage. I’ve read many posts on here and have came to the conclusion the ecu is knacked. My question is has anybody done away with ecu and operated 4wd from there own wired up switches? If I powered up the motor on transfer case to engage front prop and then had the vacuum solenoids wired up to engage the front drive shafts would that be all that’s needed to engage 4wd?
