Hi everyone im new 2nd or 3rd gen?

Hi im Matt, im looking at getting my first ever 4x4 and like the toyota hilus surfs, im fine with automatic but dont mind manual either.
Now do i go for a second generation or third generation? I prefer the looks and spec of the later ones around 1998 2002 years and from what i have read they seem to be a

The 3rd gen ( from 96 on ) is definitely the one to go for, ( IMHO) , they were built on the same chassis as the landcruiser Colorado, roomier inside than the 2nd gen, and with a centre diff, so you can use 4wd on the open road with the choice of locking the centre diff for playing on the slippery stuff.
