I see that the new laws on fireworks are having the desired effect. All day today the yobs have been letting fireworks off in the park and woods. Last night they were going off until after 2AM. Well done Tony Blair for another bit of brilliant thinking. Why not just ban the sale of the damn things until two days before November 5th?

You lot just don't understand politics. A new law equals a couple of days worth of favourable media coverage and a few more macho political speeches. The government doesn't give a toss if kids let off fireworks in the street as long as they're getting favourable headlines in the tabloids.
You can see this far better in America where Bush and Kerry are competing for the honour of "leading the free world" as they quaintly phrase it. It's a purely media based contest which both of them have just lost hands down to a goatherd.Comment
