  • Crash Tests

    Hi guys

Well looks like the purchase might be sooner than supposed, had a prang in the Passat last night and I think it might be a right off. (Doesn't the world go white when airbags go off !!!).
My daughter now refuses to contemplate travelling in anything other than a tank, so are there any ENcap type crash test results for the Surf ?

There was a link posted on an old thread (which may have been on the old site) with Crash Test results for the Surf/4Runner. They fell some way short of todays 5 Star rated vehicles, but lets face it most of our Surfs are 10 or more years old. Saying that, they do weigh in almost 2 Metric Tonnes so will fair pretty well against most other vehicles on the road!

There's also another old thread from someone who was T-Boned in their surf and would now not think about driving anything else.

Personally, I feel safe as houses in mine. You've got a fantastic allround view and a vehicle that stands almost 7' tall - people tend to spot them!

Then again there was a pr**k who overtook me last week as I was sitting in broad daylight indicating to turn right into a driveway. Just spotted him at the last second before he wiped himself out, swiftly followed by two others behind who did the same thing. I'm sorry but if you miss a Surf sitting in the middle of the road you need to re-evaluate whether you should be driving at all!

I think the upshot of the crash stat info I saw from the states was that people in the other car were more likley to be badly hurt..
