Is there anyone on here who can get some prints done for our calender, would just like a couple of test ones printed to see what they look like at first. Then if all good and the price is right get a few run off, many thanks.

Ok, I can shed a bit of light on this. 4 colour (process required to produce a colour print) A4 calendar is probably the smallest you could go with decent pics.

Four colour calendar is gonna cost a bit. If you decide on A4 SIZE calendar x 12 months you can either get 2 months on an SRA3 sheet which equals 6 sheets of colour work= 24 litho plates

      or 4 months on an SRA2 sheet= 3 colour sheets= 12 litho plates

or 8 months on an SRA1 sheet= 2 colour sheets (one with 8 months the other with 4 months.= 8 colour plates.

The larger the paper, the bigger the plates needed to print it, the bigger cost of plates, the bigger the machine, but only two makereadies on an SRA1 sheet,(the process of getting the final printed job on paper.)

Smaller paper= more plates, more makereadies, more cost, more paper

Its going to depend on what exactly you want? If your gonna want it A4(12 months) size, you will get 8 months X A4 size on one sheet and the remaining 4 months on another. This will equate to 8 Litho plates which are around £130-150 each. Four colour printing work is not cheap on a small scale.

If you are going to supply pics, the printer will also have to scan them to put on a system which he will then transfer to litho plates......which also costs.

you then have paper costs, and you also have finishing costs (cutting the different months to A4 SIZE, glueing, or spiral binding.

If you decide you want a bigger calendar size, then, the paper, plates, and cost gets higher.

For an example, my local football club wanted a small programme printed for a tournament, A5 in size, their quote for 60 copies, 4 pages, was well over a £1000.00, they decided against it, and I ended up doing them on my pc.This was mostly black and white, with a few colour logos.

I wish I could help, but I run big format presses, and my company wouldn't entertain anything on a small scale, and I wouldn't be able to do it on the quiet, as its a long technical process to produce the final result

Best idea is gonna be a one of these small prontaprint outfits or very small family based printers..........but I seriously think it is gonna cost a fair bit either way you do it , on such a small scale. Unfortunately, you are going to be printing 12 different pics for each month, which in their own right all equate to a 12 seperate printed jobs.

Good luck, I'll be interested tio find out what prices you get, otherwise it would have to be black only prints..............which of course is a lot cheaper.

All of the above is based on the Lithographic Printing Process, by which a majority of printing is done. You can now get digital printing, but this is not my field and wouldn't like to comment on the prices involved in this.

      cheers

If push comes to shove I have a Tektronix A4 Solid Wax printer, and can run them out on that providing the numbers are low - yep it's not the fastest thing around, but it does do a reasonable job

                Just another suggestion.

How about agree on 12 suitable images, and produce a PDF that anyone could print off themselves. Everyone would get the Forum calendar and bear the costs of printing it themselves.

Surely all this effort might be better spent getting a deal on some embroidered polo shirts or something of that nature...?

The idea of the calender is to raise some funds to help keep this place running

As Nigel says this Superb Forum costs money to run, So we as members try & help towards the cost as its nice to give something back. So rather than ask for funds we are trying to raise funds by providing you with the Forum Calender it will be affordable. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
T-shirts & Sweat-shirts Is the next project we hope.

Almost, there are a few of the first yearly that will be coming up for renewal in the next couple of weeks and then more there after. So look out for you renewal PM, or its back to standard member for you. No personal avatar, smaller PM box, default user title, no blue star.
