  • HELP new head unit no volume or bass from rear speakers

I've got a 93 4Runner and I've taken out the weird uk single din head unit which was in a double din adapter. I've fitted a new (2016) pioneer double din unit and had to cut wires as the ISO connectors were incompatible.

I've got a bit lost. I've connected the fronts fine, I've finally figured out the rear speakers don't come through the same ISO plug so I've now got them connected correctly. Problem is they're super quiet and all treble. Also the sound only comes out of the upper rear speakers, not the side ones on the pillars.

Can anyone help please? I've had no music in the car for weeks now!

    Thanks in advance. Kieran 07999 370 473

Would have bought an ISO connector (autoleads adaptor) from Halfords or the like they do loads of them to be able to switch head units with no fuss.

Not sure what the upper rear speakers are you refer to. Normally two speakers in rear load area panels and some had tweeters fitted above the rear window as well.

Sounds like the rear load speakers are still standard, they have a built in amp so suspect you are not powering up the amp on each speaker as you have cut the ISO off.

If your new head unit has pre amp outs then they need to be connected to the power for the amps in each of the rear load area speakers.

I've shorted out the battery feed for the stereo/interior lights/clock. Clearly I'm an idiot.

All the fuses in the footwell are fine. Is there an inline fuse somewhere? I can't find one.

I would have bought an ISO adapter but it was a moment where I had a window of opportunity to do the install and Halfords was closed. Poor planning.

I really appreciate the advice though thank you

in the engine bay are more fuses, it will be the 'dome' fuse for the interior lights etc.
