  • Rescued Hilux Project

Hi All, Myself and Surfguy have just finally purchased our first Hilux Surf.

We always wanted one, for work and for weekends away with the dog and surf boards. A couple of months ago I started working at a production company I do work on an off for, and happen to notice a beaten up Surf which appeared to be abandoned in the staff car park.

I've got photos to illustrate the project, Its easy to add them to the other forums I'm on but I can't seem to get the code right to preview these. If someone could tell me how I'll go back and edit this so the images show.

After some asking about it turned out I used to know the owner, he had a collision in it and left it there TWO YEARS ago. After having a good look over it and quite a lot of convincing he sold it to us for £350. Before we bought it we had to get a new battery (one had been nicked), Matt (surfguy) got it started (first time) and we worked out it would need for it to pass an mot -

    - Drivers side wing mirror
    - Rear view mirror
    - passenger side headlight and indicator.
    - Indicator stalk module thingy that goes around the steering column.
    - the rear drivers side shock seemed to have givenway so both need replacing.
    - That pesky air intake hose that rips on every model of this engine (I think that's what it is, Matt (surfguy) knows more about motors than me so my apologies if I get any terminology wrong.)

The frame looks good from underneath and most of the damage seemed to have been taken by the bull bars and front wing. However for the 2 Years it was left round the back of this workplace, the spray painters had taken to using it as an indoor 'smoking' shelter and frustratingly they had ripped apart the interior considerably...(animals). They really did a number on it.

Will update with our first day working on it and fix the photos so they show in the post. Perhaps I need my first post approved before I add in photos. Glad to join the forum, really hope you guys can help us and hope this project thread as we get on with the restoration is helpful to others.
