  • Wheel and tyre question???

    Hi all.
I have a 1996 3rd gen 3.0 surf with horrible aftermarket wheels on it.
Had them on for over 3 years now and I'm sick of them.
I now need 2 front tyres so instead of buying the same size tyres I want to replace the wheels and tyres.
My surf is blue over silver and quite tidy,it is also the family daily car,tow car etc so I don't want yo fit anything that's going yo completely ruin it's good driving characteristics.
Rarely goes offroad either so mega aggressive m+s tyres are not necessary.
What I do want is a set if wide steel wheels and road/semi offroad tyres.
Tried a set if 2nd gen 15" aftermarket wheels on mine and they did not clear the calipers so unsure if 15" steels would clear or not.
There's plenty 7" wide wheels but I want them to stand out by bring wide but I don't think I can go yo 10" with standard bodywork, unless I can get a road tyre without big chunky tread that will clear??
My suspension is standard height but with roughtrax heavy duty springs (which are lower at the front and always have been).
I'd also consider a lift kit if necessary to fit wider wheels,my surf has barely cost me a penny in 3 years so I feel like spending a bit to make it look nicer.
    Any info appreciated.
    Thanks rollo.

    Hi

Gen 3's need a minimum 16" rim to clear the larger brakes fitted. you could look at an 82 wide rim which would let you mount a 255/75/16 tyre without any needs for a mod to the suspension or body.

As has been said already ya need 16" wheels on a 3rd gen Surf...
Been running 16" modular's with 265.70.16 tyres admittedly on a 2nd gen, no probs...
Ya could try searching here to get an idea ... wheels n tyres packages ....

          Just uploading pics.
Had a look around and I think I'm going to buy a 2" spring and shock lift kit and 10" wide wheels with 305/70/16 tyres (think that's right) but they will be cooper tyres which are a non aggressive tread pattern so hoping I will get away without doing a body lift.
The surf isn't owe me anything so I'm going to treat it and make it look the way I want.
The wheel were on another surf I had and when I bought this 1 I swapped as the standard wheels looked terrible as the laquer had peeled off them and the tyres were bald so I swapped them over.
          Time for a freshen up.

missing? swing away spare wheel holder, that will be my choice to keep, specially if im putting 305/70/R16,
got that size fitted on a second gen with 2inch susp, 2 inch body lift, and nissan patrol wheels painted in black, the offset is perfect, even with 30mm spacers
