  • Mechanics report on brakes.

"Uneven application of brakes at front of car"
What would be the likely cause of this? Could it be caused by warped discs?

  • #2
Warped disks, seized pistons in the caliber. If you feel steering pulling when braking I'd go the first option. If not then most likely the second one

Could be anything from air in the system, to a seized calliper, to knackered disks and pads.

Less likely to be worn disks and pads as they tend to wear roughly evenly.

At the rear it can be a side of oil contamination from a leaky axle.

        Thanks for the replies.
If it is worn discs what is the best option for replacement? Should I go for genuine Toyota discs or the cross drilled and grooved discs from Rough Trax?

Or should I go for what "serious 3rd gen people fir the 321mm Tundra V8 calipers and disks." [Karma Supra]? Would these fit under my standard 16' six spoke wheels?

Probs a sticky caliper. You can send them off for renewing. That way you know its your original equipment and that the parts used were good quality.Mine will be removed soon as I get my summer car out. They feel squidgy and are wearing a bit uneven so its swap out the discs an pads and send off the calipers.

Yep. Mechanic says the calliper are old, dirty and corroded. They've been cleaned and freed up for now but I may want to consider new ones in the not to distant future or as Lewd Lux Lover says get the old on reconditioned.

Just to add. you NEVER get ''new'' calipers. Just old ones remanufactured. I always like to get my own calipers remade as I get much better quality consumables and a longer warrenty. Plus this crew test to 2500psi which is not something that happens with shop bought replacements.

I ordered a "Refurbished" calliper for the states and I was horrified with the results... the pistons had been PAINTED... including the sealing surface!

Luckily I only wanted the casing so rebuild that using my old pistons that were fine..
